The College

In September 2012 Kirklees College will open a brand new, state-of-the-art campus at the Waterfront Quarter in Huddersfield.

Work is underway on the multi-million pound building which will replace the current centre at New North Road.

Strategic Sites are the development managers and Allenbuild is the main contractor. Where possible, local sub-contractors are being brought into the suppply chain and students are helping to construct a boundary wall.

As one of only thirteen colleges in England recently given funding by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), the campus will offer first class education and training opportunities.

Preparation on the site begun in November 2009 and building work, which is due to last 104 weeks, started at Easter 2010.

The development covers 24,000 square metres, will be 9 storeys high at its tallest and will achieve a BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) rating of 'excellent' from the Building Research Establishment for its low environmental impact.

Vice Principal, Melanie Brooke said: "The new campus has been created with one thing in mind - providing students with 21st century learning facilities and resources. All our decisions have been taken with the best interests of learners at the very heart."
